As the name implies, these elk are named after our 26th president, the great hunter, conservationist, and statesman, Theodore Roosevelt.  Teddy hunted all over the world, but he said that of all the animals he ever hunted, elk were the most majestic.  To hunt these namesake elk seems to bring one into some kind of closer connection to the great Mr. Roosevelt.  It's an awesome experience.

Here, and on the following pages, is a brief comparison of our Roosevelt's elk to the much more common and widespread Rocky Mountain elk.

Text Box: Size
The most noticeable difference between Roosevelt’s and Rocky Mountain elk is their size. Roosevelt’s have larger bodies, shorter legs, and bulls generally have smaller antlers. These elk are the second largest game ungulate in North America, only moose are larger. Some mature bulls have reportedly reached 1200 pounds. The largest we, at Allegany Outfitters, have seen was 950 pounds using the heart girth measurement system. This was a seven year old bull.
