Buffalo

This is a photo of Allegany Outfitters guide Corey Cook with a huge bull he harvested in April, 2006.
For many of us hunting is a historical thing to do. Hunting, harvesting, and eating game animals creates a close connection to our ancestors. From this viewpoint there is no other hunt any more historical than harvesting a buffalo. Our Native Americans on the Great Plains survived on buffalo and the early Europeans hunted buffalo. The experience of shooting and butchering a buffalo is literally, living history. It gives one an experience that can never be duplicated in a textbook.
We have found a ranch is eastern Oregon where anyone may go and harvest a buffalo and duplicate first hand what the Native Americans and Buffalo Bill Cody and others did. Unlike some buffalo ranches where the animal is isolated in a pen before your arrival, David Durr lets his shooters go out among the animals, choose one, and shoot it. As you can see from the photos, it's a beautiful place for your "history" lesson.
